It seems rather incredulous that British officers in an occupational army in a defeated country under military rule took their wives with them. Nor does it seem credulous that people could catch taxis and passenger trains to head for Hamburg to Switzerland to some mountain chalet. There were surely other priorities. Nice story, not very real.
