In this film we find out that before the events of the original film, Hatter caused a public embarrassment of the Red Queen and she vowed vengeance. In the original film, when Hatter is captured by Red Queen and brought before her, she is very calm with him and even allows him to make hats for her. Apparently, since she's already had her revenge by capturing and torturing Hatter's family (unbeknownst to him), she could treat him more calmly.
