Doc is not even holding his walkie-talkie when he goes back to rescue Clara, but Marty continues to talk to him with his, and Doc continues to hear him even with all the train noise. Even with a working walkie-talkie, Marty's voice over the walkie-talkie would have been impossible to hear without holding the walkie-talkie speaker up against Doc's ear.
