Barbara Beaurevels è la bella discendente di una famiglia nobile decaduta e ama da tempo il medico Lukas. Costui, durante un viaggio in Sudamerica, sposa Cora. Barbara nel frattempo ha ricevuto una ricca eredità da una lontana parente e usa i soldi per ingaggiare un uomo che seduca Cora, la quale non ama il marito. L'uomo, durante una lite, uccide Cora e Lukas viene accusato dell'omicidio: sarà Barbara a salvarlo dall'accusa, riuscendo così a dimostrargli il suo amore.
