Armand e Albert convivono da anni: insieme gestiscono il locale notturno "The Birdcage" e insieme hanno cresciuto Val, il figlio di Armand. Quando Val annuncia di voler sposare la figlia di un senatore ultraconservatore, i due devono prepararsi all'incontro con i consuoceri, ai quali non si può certo rivelare la natura della loro famiglia. Tra l'altro il senatore Keely caldeggia questo incontro (convinto che si tratti di una coppia regolare e prestigiosa) per ripulire l'immagine del suo partito di fronte ai media.
