Quando Alfred Kinsey pubblico' nel 1948 "Il comportamento sessuale del maschio" cambiò completamente il modo di guardare ai problemi legati alla sfera dell'eros. Non perche' Freud non avesse gia' fatto la sua parte ma perche' mancava uno strumento che rilevasse, nella societa' americana del secondo dopoguerra, l'effettivo stato della materia, in particolare dal punto di vista della rilevanza sociologica. Il film di Condon, grazie a un Liam Neeson come sempre "in parte", ne ricostruisce la vita con l'andamento di un 'biopic' senza particolari colpi d'ala. Sa pero' far riflettere su come dei profondi mutamenti di costume possano trarre origine dai bisogni piu' profondi di una persona. Resta nella memoria alla fine il dialogo tra il padre (pastore sessuofobo) e il figlio, ormai adulto e famoso, che lo interroga sulla sua sessualita'. Due scuole di attori (Neeson e Lithgow) si confrontano.
