E' la storia dell'amicizia tra Alfredo, proiezionista del cinematografo parrocchiale del paesino di Giancaldo in Sicilia, e Salvatore, diventato poi da grande affermato regista a Roma. Alla notizia della morte di Alfredo, Salvatore ripercorre nella sua memoria i momenti più significativi di questa amicizia e decide di tornare al suo paese per i funerali.Ma tra le altre sorprese scoprirà che la sala del Nuovo Cinema Paradiso sta per essere abbattuta.
