Giasone si reca alla ricerca del Vello d'Oro, su ordine del re Pelia. Costui però trama contro di lui perché l'oracolo dice che Giasone stesso l'ucciderà. Il mitico eroe riesce comunque a compiere la sua missione, anche con l'aiuto degli dei e di Medea, figlia del re della Colchide. Impadronitosi del Vello, dopo aver ucciso l'Idra a sette teste, Giasone condurrà Medea con sé sulla via del ritorno.Liberamente ispirato al mito di Giasone, il film bada al sodo: quant'è bella l'avventura. Un capolavoro gli "ingenui" effetti speciali di Ray Harryhausen (con la lotta contro gli scheletri), una delizia la fotografia. Musiche di Bernard Herrmann. Un piccolo classico che vanta numerosi cultori.
