Il trasferimento in una casa da sogno e in un tranquillo cul-de-sac nella California meridionale si trasforma in un incubo per una giovane coppia. Chris e Lisa Mattson (Patrick Wilson e Kerry Washington) si sono appena sistemati nella loro dimora di periferia, quando diventano il bersaglio del loro vicino (Samuel L. Jackson), un rigido poliziotto del LAPD, che si è autonominato sorvegliante del vicinato.
