La prima missione aerea americana su Tokyo, nel 1942, durò solo trenta secondi e comportò numerose vittime tra i piloti. Nel film si racconta la vicenda di un aviatore americano che parte per la missione lasciando a casa la moglie incinta, viene abbattuto dalla contraerea e cade in territorio cinese. Qui perde l'uso di una gamba, ma si salva grazie alle amorevoli cure ricevute in un villaggio.
