Paula e Sam si amano, però la loro relazione non è vista di buon occhio dai genitori di lei. Paula infatti e figlia di un facoltoso politico in corsa per la carica di governatore dello stato mentre Sam è un povero spiantato senza arte né parte. L'amore di Sam è sincero, ma i futuri suoceri sono convinti del contrario. La coppia decide perciò di scappare a Las Vegas e di sposarsi in fretta e furtia per mettere tutti di fronte al fatto compiuto. Per questo rubano una lussuosa Rolls Royce del padre di lei e si mettono in marcia, inseguiti dalla polizia.
