Sono passati più di dieci anni da quando il mondo è stato distrutto, anche se non si sa bene da cosa: un giorno c'è stata una grande esplosione di luce e poi più nulla. Con quello che è rimasto, il cibo, i vestiti, gli utensili, le coperte e ogni cosa che possa aiutarli a sopravvivere in uno scenario senza sole e pieno di cenere, un uomo e il suo giovane figlio si spostano insieme, tenendo tutto sulla schiena e in un carrello del supermercato.
