Harold trova un modesto impiego in un negozio di vestiti ma fa credere alla sua ragazza di esserne il direttore. Un suo amico, in fuga da un poliziotto, si arrampica su un grattacielo e ad Harold resta impressa la sua capacità acrobatica. Nel negozio dove lavora si cerca una trovata pubblicitaria e Harold dice al suo direttore che, allo scopo, scalerà un grattacielo: in realtà ha intenzione di scalare i primi piani e farsi sostituire da quel suo amico per i successivi. I due spartiranno i 1000 dollari del premio. Ma il poliziotto che lo seguiva ritrova quell'uomo e lo segue sul palazzo e quindi l'amico di Harold, impegnato a sfuggire al poliziotto, non può fare la scalata. Così Harold deve scalare tutto il palazzo e rischia realmente la sua vita. Ma riesce a salvarsi.
