Nel deserto del Mojave uno squallido ristorante diventa l'epicentro del resoconto finale della Terra; ignari della catastrofe che sta per abbattersi sul pianeta, Bob Hanson, il proprietario del locale, e la cameriera Charlie, prossima al parto, sono intenti al loro lavoro di tutti i giorni, servendo una benestante coppia di periferia, Sandra e Howard e la loro figlia adolescente Audrey, in attesa che il figlio di Bob, Jeep, ripari la loro automobile.
