Un produttore di Broadway, per frodare il fisco, si fa finanziare da ricche vecchiette uno spettacolo, sicuro che sarà un fiasco. Film d'esordio di M. Brooks (che prese un Oscar per la sceneggiatura) è diventato un cult movie per la sgangherata forza satirica nella rappresentazione del mondo teatrale. Grande spasso nelle scene della commedia musicale. La voce della canzone “Springtime for Hitler” è di Brooks.
