Joey Evans (Sinatra) fa il cantante e vorrebbe aprire un locale tutto suo. C'è una ballerina, Linda (Novak), che è innamorata di lui, ma lui non sembra darle grande peso. Una sera capita a casa di Vera (Hayworth), ex ballerina, oggi ricchissima vedova. Vera è la donna che può aiutarlo ad aprire il locale: infatti i due si accordano e l'affare prende corpo. Lei però si accorge che Joey è attratto da Linda e gli impone di licenziarla... Non è sicuramente uno dei più memorabili musical hollywoodiani, però il terzetto di interpreti più le canzoni di Sinatra (tra le quali la celebre "The Lady Is a Tramp") garantiscono uno spettacolo piacevole.
