Ramona ha nove anni e una fantasia fuori dell'ordinario che la mette spesso in ridicolo con i compagni di scuola e col vicinato. In famiglia è molto amata ma spesso i suoi pasticci superano la capacità di pazienza dei genitori e mettono in imbarazzo la sorella maggiore, Beezus, che alla piccola peste deve anche la storpiatura del suo nome, Beatrice. Le cose si complicano quando il padre delle due perde il lavoro e, per salvare la casa dal pignoramento, Ramona decide di prendere pericolosamente in mano la situazione.
