Joe Pendleton, un pugile, muore prematuramente in un disastro aereo. L'errore è stato commesso da un angelo del Paradiso che ha assunto da poco l'incarico di raccogliere le anime. Mr. Jordan, che accoglie i nuovi arrivi, si accorge dell'errore troppo tardi per rimandare l'anima di Joe all'interno del suo corpo, poichè questo è bruciato. Lo invia così nel corpo del miliardario Bruce Farnsworth, ucciso dalla moglie. Per Joe inizia così una nuova vita.
