Bayan, a capo di una spedizione che mira alla conquista dell'impero cinese, vuole offrire in dono al Gran Khan una splendida fanciulla chiamata "Rosa Nera", che però riesce a fuggire con un arciere inglese. I due sono poi catturati dall'imperatrice cinese. Nelle sue mani cade anche un nobile inglese, amico dell'arciere. Durante un'evasione, questi muore e "Rosa Nera" scompare. Essa verrà ritrovata da Bayan, nel frattempo vincitore dei cinesi, che l'offrirà in dono al re normanno Guglielmo, conquistatore dell'Inghilterra.
