In una cittadina del “Deep South” giunge Val, un giovane uomo dal turbolento passato. Di lui si innamora la matura Lady Torrence, malmaritata con un uomo anziano, malvagio e malato. Lady assume Val nel suo emporio e ne diventa l’amante benché su di lui abbia messo gli occhi la giovane e alcolizzata Carol. Il marito di Lady scopre però il tradimento della moglie e medita vendetta sugli amanti.
