La S. S. Claridon è in programma per i suoi ultimi cinque viaggi dopo trentotto anni di servizio. Dopo un'esplosione nel locale caldaie, il capitano Robert Adams è riluttante a evacuare il piroscafo. Mentre l'equipaggio lotta per mantenere una paratia tra il locale caldaie allagato e la sala macchine ed evitare l'affondamento della nave, il passeggero Cliff Henderson lotta contro il tempo cercando di salvare l'amata moglie Laurie Henderson, intrappolata sotto una trave d'acciaio nella sua cabina, con il supporto del membro dell'equipaggio Hank Lawson.
