Spinto da un'inspiegabile raptus, un giovane originario delle Molucche viene sorpreso mentre fà strazio dei cadaveri custoditi nell'obitorio di un ospedale americano. Prima che gli infermieri possano immobilizzarlo, il ragazzo si uccide pronunciando il nome dell'isola di Kito dalla quale è, presumibilmente, venuto. Decisi a scoprire l'origine del folle gesto, dottor Chandler, l'antropologa Ridgway e la giornalista Kelly organizzano una spedizione sull'isola senza immaginare che ciò cui andranno incontro oltrepassa le più sfrenate e macabre fantasie: Kito è l'infernale regno del dottor Obrero, uno scienziato pazzo che sta perfezionando la tecnica del trapianto dei cervelli a spese di primitivi indigeni soggiogati dai sanguinari rituali pseudoreligiosi di sua invenzione.
