Nel 2047 la Event Horizon, astronave in grado di viaggiare oltre la velocità della luce, scompare mentre è in orbita intorno al pianeta Nettuno. Trentacinque anni dopo ristabilisce i contatti. Dalla Terra parte una squadra di astronauti, comandata dal cap. Miller, con a bordo lo scienziato Weir, progettista della Event Horizon. La raggiungono, ma la trovano vuota. Tutti i membri dell'equipaggio sono colpiti da inquietanti allucinazioni, riferite al loro passato.
