Bob Munro è un uomo sulla cinquantina: una bella casa in un quartiere residenziale, un lavoro frustrante ma redditizio, una moglie attraente e due figli che, arrivati nella fase adolescenziale, non lo considerano più. A causa di un'irrinunciabile - pena il licenziamento - riunione di lavoro, decide di spostare la meta delle sue vacanze e di portare tutta la famiglia, invece che alle agognate Hawaii, in Colorado, luogo in cui si svolgerà proprio la riunione. Mezzo di locomozione un immenso e colorato camper difficilmente manovrabile e super accessoriato. Le disavventure durante la vacanza si susseguiranno una dopo l'altra e il nucleo familiare, anche grazie alla conoscenza di una famiglia felice e post hippy di camperisti, ritroverà la condivisione di certi ideali nonché il piacere e il gusto di stare insieme.
