Lo specialista di sistemi di sicurezza per il computer Jack Stanfield lavora per la Landrock Pacific Bank di Seattle. E' un funzionario di alto livello e ha costruito la sua reputazione e la sua carriera sulla progettazione di sistemi che proteggono i depositi della banca dalla minaccia costante e crescente degli hackers, con la sua complessa rete di codici di accesso, tracciatori e firewalls. Ma c'è un punto debole nel sistema di cui Jack non ha tenuto conto: lui stesso. E' una fragilità che un ladro spietato e ingegnoso è pronto a sfuttare. Bill Cox sta studiando Jack e la sua famiglia osservando la loro vita con un vero e proprio arsenale tecnologico che raccoglie tutte le informazioni. Una volta a conoscenza di ogni aspetto della vita di Jack, Cox assieme ad un gruppo di complici, si impadronisce di casa Stanfield e Jack si ritrova suo malgrado coinvolto nel tentativo di sottrarre 100 milioni di dollari alla Landrock Pacific Bank.
