[Victoria is face down on her bed crying, as CC, also crying, is removing Victoria's wet shoes and changing her socks]
I was just going through your mother's papers. In her will, Victoria, she... she wanted you to live with me. But you don't have to if you don't want to. Everybody wants you... Aunt Vesta wants you, everyone wants you.
Victoria Cecilia Essex:
[turns to face CC]
Can I stay here in my house?
CC Bloom:
[sadly]
No.
Victoria Cecilia Essex:
Does my father know she died?
CC Bloom:
I don't know. I thought you didn't see him.
Victoria Cecilia Essex:
I know who he is. I saw him on the street twice.
CC Bloom:
I can call him if you want.
Victoria Cecilia Essex:
[turning back around from CC]
No.
CC Bloom:
Well, maybe... maybe someday. If you don't, um... if you don't want to come with me, Victoria... I... I will understand. I'll understand. I mean, I don't know what kind of mother I'd make. You wouldn't believe the things that go through my head sometimes. And I'm very selfish, too. I don't know what she was thinking of when she picked me... not that I don't want to do it. There's nothing in the world I want more than to be with you. You think about it.
Victoria Cecilia Essex:
CC?
[CC sits down at the foot of Victoria's bed]

Victoria Cecilia Essex:
If I go with you, can I bring my cat?
CC Bloom:
[smiling through her tears]
Of course you can bring your cat. You can bring any old thing you want.
[Victoria climbs onto CC's lap and into her arms as they cry together]
