Lt. Cmdr. Robert Badger:
I gathered you all together on your first evening to give you some idea of what we intend to do with you at Dartmouth. We expect you to become officers in a service of which we are all very proud. You will learn how to be leaders; to make decisions; to take responsibility. Now all this, I know, may sound rather forbidding. But remember this: if you're always sincere, always do your best according to your lights, mean what you say and stick to it whatever the consequences, then there'll always be somebody to put in a good word for you at your court martial.
