Uncle Tom was right. Only his body died at the hands of Simon Legree. Tom's spirit rose out of the pages of Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel to agitate the conscience of a nation. A war was fought; the black people were legally freed. Today, 120 years later, the battle for true freedom still continues.
