[seeing Hap holding another letter from Linda]
Another one, huh?
[glances down at letter]
Nurse:
"Love." The girl's a fool.
Hap O'Connor:
Think she means it?
Nurse:
She keeps saying it in all her letters, doesn't she?
Hap O'Connor:
Yeah.
[pauses]
Hap O'Connor:
I gotta start figuring out some presents to get her. I wonder how she'd like a red and yellow mackinaw.
Nurse:
[shows displeasure]
A mackinaw?
Hap O'Connor:
Now what's the matter with it? Up in those oil fields it gets colder than a... an Eskimo's nose.
Nurse:
If you want something she'll appreciate, take her a negligee.
[smiles]
Hap O'Connor:
Well, what d'ya mean, one of those...
[gestures towards his chest]
Nurse:
[insistently]
Yes, one of those. And be sure it's thin enough to catch pneumonia in.
[giggles]
