Johnnie Johnson:
He would write the lyrics and he and I would get together and we'd play some kind of music that he could put the lyrics into and it would all come out just right, you know. Some of it would be fast. Some of it would be slow, like, this piece, "Havana Moon," for instance. And that was a slow, sort of calypso thing. So, we had to find some kind of calypso music to go with the lyrics to what he was - to "Havana Moon." And then, pieces like "Baby Doll" and "Roll Over Beethoven" all these was fast stuff, so, we had to come up with some fast music that would blend in with the words that he was writing. So, he could get all his sentences out and still come out on time. So, this is the way he did it.
