At Rothschild houses like Waddesdon no one bother to pick cherries. It was seen as far more elegant to have the gardeners carry the actual trees around the table so we could choose which fruit we wanted. At breakfast guests were offered a choice of long horn, short horn or jersey milk with their tea.
