What kind of sickness, or malignancy, orders the death of strangers on a train? What kind of lunatic or devil? As I sat by the bed of the child's bed, I tried to imagine this wretched individual, protected, perhaps, by a mother, who had always believed that one day he would commit an unthinkable crime. But it was beyond my imagination.
