Norma:
It's my fault, you know.
Harry Callahan:
What?
Norma:
His leaving. I thought I could take it. No class.
Harry Callahan:
Don't ever say that.
Norma:
What?
Harry Callahan:
Just don't ever low-rate yourself.
Norma:
Look, what I meant was, whatever it takes to be a cop's wife, I'm just not sure I'm making it. He really tries, and... and these bastards, you know, "pig" this, "pig" that. Oh, but maybe it's when I watch him walk out that door at night. And I think, what if it's the last time I ever see him again? Look, am I the only one? I mean, doesn't it drive your wife crazy?
Harry Callahan:
No.
Norma:
You mean she got used to it?
Harry Callahan:
No, she never did, really.
Norma:
Well, what, then?
Harry Callahan:
She's dead.
Norma:
Oh, please forgive me.
Harry Callahan:
She was driving home late one night and a drunk crossed the center line. There's no reason for it, really.
