My mother had a deep love and responsiveness to art, to music, to theater. When I was growing up she had a lot of jazz and blues. She liked gospel music and listening to Mahalia Jackson and the counter-tenor Russell Oberlin singing Handel. She was a great lover of many kinds and forms of beauty.
