2018 was a bad year for Carsey Werner sitcoms; and their stars. The stars of three major Carsey Werner sitcoms, Bill Cosby of The Cosby Show (1984), Roseanne Barr from Roseanne (1988), and Danny Masterson from That '70s Show (1998), all had scandals which extinguished their careers, and also threatened the visibility and the existence of the shows which propelled them into stardom in the first place. In April of 2018 Bill Cosby was convicted of rape by a Pennsylvania court of law, for the assault of Andrea Constadt which allegedly happened in 2005. He is now awaiting sentencing which will happen in September of 2018. As a result of all of this, the planned Cosby Show reboot that NBC was putting together was scrapped, and the original The Cosby Show sitcom, which was a Carsey Werner mega-hit, and dominated the airwaves on NBC from 1984 to 1992, was also pulled from circulation. In May of 2018 Roseanne Barr tweeted out a racist insult of former Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarret, comparing her to an "ape", and all of a sudden Roseanne's career was suddenly extinguished as well. Her reboot, which was a smash hit for ABC in the early part of 2018, was all of a sudden cancelled as well, as were the rebroadcast of her original Carsey Werner 1980s sitcom which dominated the airwaves during that period. In addition to this, Danny Masterson, who played Hyde in the hit Carsey Werner sitcom That 70s Show, was accused by four women of rape in 2018, and he was then suddenly dropped from his talent agency, as well as fired from his hit show on Netflix, The Ranch (2016). Although in Masterson's case, "That 70s Show" was not pulled from circulation, like Cosby and Roseanne were in the wake of those scandals. Marcy Carsey, the lead producer of Carsey Werner, who created Cosby, Roseanne and That '70s Show, had this to say about the scandals plaguing her sitcom stars currently: "All I can say is that life gives you these surprises. The Roseanne political stance, what a surprise. Bill Cosby ... the guy that we worked with, the guy we knew him to be or thought him to be was a wonderful collaborator, a brilliant guy, very kind-hearted. When anyone was sick or had a loss, he was right there. So it was a shocker," she said, summarizing: "All these decades later to have these revelations, it's awful - but it happens."
