Chapter 20 of the original novel The Wizard of Oz is "The Dainty China Country." In it, Dorothy and her friends pass through a small country made entirely of china - including the people - on their way to meet Glinda. This adventure has been omitted from nearly every filmed version of the story for pacing reasons.
