When in the woods a lot of the characters can hear an unpleasant, almost unbearable, noise which is linked to The Kid (Bill Skarsgård)'s doorway that transferred him from his own reality into this one. Stephen King fans would recognise this as a "thinny"; a doorway between dimensions that King describes in the Dark Tower series.
