The character Master Tinker may be based on Mister Tinker, an unseen character from L. Frank Baum's Ozma of Oz. Mister Tinker was from the Kingdom of Ev, which is close to Oz, and was the creator of Tik Tok the Clockwork Man. Mister Tinker was an eccentric recluse who left the Oz/Ev planet by inventing a long ladder which allowed him to walk to the moon.
