In the book, the Wicked Witch of the East owned magic silver shoes, which were confiscated by the Munchkins and given to Dorothy as contraband of war. Il mago di Oz (1939) changed these shoes into the iconic Ruby Slippers to be more aesthetic. Disney paid MGM for permission to use the Ruby Slippers in Nel fantastico mondo di Oz (1985), but this time around decided to leave the shoes out entirely.
