Arkham Asylum was redesigned for this movie, because the art designs for Arkham were done before they know the movie would be done in DCAU style. Bruce Timm also felt that the original design didn't work too well with the Justice League world and was redesigned to look more like a realistic mental help facility. This is in fact the newer high security Arkham Asylum building that Commissioner Barbara Gordon mentioned while narrating the flashback in Batman of the Future - Il ritorno del Joker (2000).
