The design of the Archangel of Death is quite fearsome but also quite accurate to how the Angels actually were depicted in the original religious texts. However, it could also be said that some of his physical design is taken from 'A Wind in the Door', a fantasy novel by Madeleine L'Engle, which famously depicted Angels as bizarre forms with many wings and many eyes.
