Doc Hudson is based on the Hudson Hornet. The Hudson Motor Car Company merged with Nash-Kelvinator in 1954 to form American Motors Corporation, who produced both the Gremlin (Grem) and the Pacer (Acer). AMC was ultimately acquired by Chrysler Corporation, who had previously made the Plymouth Superbird (The King)
