It was originally planned to end the series after seven seasons, and make a feature film, which would be the show's finale. But the show's ratings on Syfy led to it being renewed for an eighth season, and the film turned into the seventh season two-parter Stargate SG-1: Lost City: Part 1 (2004) and Stargate SG-1: Lost City: Part 2 (2004).
