Bret Harrison as Charlie Richardson was intended to be the replacement character for Eric Forman once he left for Africa (and Topher Grace left the show). However, Harrison had won the leading role in Reaper - In missione per il Diavolo (2007) and could no longer commit to the show, and so he was killed off by having him fall off the water tower fatally. Josh Meyers was then recruited to fill in for Topher Grace.
