In the scene where the squadron is first allowed to participate in combat, the pilots are shown in their antiquated P40 Warhawks (rightly called "Hand me down" planes elsewhere in the film) dogfighting successfully with Messerschmitt Bf 109 Gs, accelerating, turning, and maneuvering on an equal footing. This would not happen - the P40s were obsolete already by the time the war started, and in particular had a substandard engine that performed poorly at high altitudes. In the kind of combat depicted, it would be thoroughly outclassed by the 109 Gustaf, the fastest Bf 109 with a speed advantage of some 50 kph.
