When Corso arrives at the Kesler Foundation he asks the receptionist what floor the foundation is on and she tells him, in French, the 2nd. He then proceeds up one flight of stairs and enters, one floor too low, according to the receptionist, as the 2nd floor is considered to be the 1st in France, the 1st being considered the "Ground" floor. As such, by her directions, he would have had to climb to the American 3rd floor to reach the 2nd floor in France.
