Léon è un killer che vive solo, avendo unicamente una pianta da vaso come compagnia. Mathilda è una ragazzina che abita nell'appartamento a fianco alla stanza di Léon. Quando la famiglia di Mathilda viene sterminata per una storia di droga, lei chiede aiuto a Léon. Tra i due nasce una tenera amicizia, fra scambi di lezioni sull'uso delle armi da una parte e di lettura dall'altra.
