Mosè e Ramses sono allevati come fratelli da Seti, faraone che governa con saggezza la sua gente e difende i suoi confini con l'aiuto dell'esercito e la benevolenza degli dèi. In battaglia Mosè, raccolto dalle acque del Nilo da una principessa e cresciuto come un figlio da Seti, salva la vita a Ramses, principe irrequieto e complessato, che alla morte del padre e su consiglio della madre decide di esiliarlo. Le origini ebraiche di Mosè, rivelate dai saggi, che riconoscono in lui il profeta che libererà il loro popolo da una schiavitù lunga quattrocento anni, gli alienano la lealtà del fratellastro e lo conducono verso un destino più grande. Abbandonato nel deserto, Mosè trova soccorso tra le braccia di una donna araba e di un dio-bambino, che 'arma' il suo braccio contro Ramses e lo guida con gli ebrei fuori dall'Egitto e verso la Terra Promessa. Il faraone, ostinato e superbo, dichiara guerra a Mosè e al suo popolo, conducendo gli egiziani alla rovina sul fondo del Mar Rosso.
