Durante la seconda guerra mondiale, un giornalista americano viene inviato a Berlino. Lui in realtà accetta perchè vuole cercare la donna che ama e della quale ha perso le tracce a causa della guerra. Durante la sua trasferta in Germania, però, viene coinvolto nella storia dell'omicidio di un soldato americano, il suo autusta, corrotto fino al collo e fidanzato di Lena, la donna per la quale é tornato in Germania ma che ora stenta a riconoscere...
