Abby, studentessa americana fuori corso, arriva a Tokyo per stare accanto al suo fidanzato, che prontamente parte alla volta di Osaka. Affascinata dal negozio di ramen sotto casa, Abby decide di imparare l'arte della cucina dallo chef Maezumi e da sua moglie Reiko. Purtroppo il lavoro non è quel che pensava, e il suo primo compito è fare le pulizie. Nella speranza di apprendere la preparazione dei ramen, Abby persiste, ma Maezumi non pare intenzionato a farla crescere professionalmente...
